Ways to Pay Your Rent

There are a number of ways you can pay your rent, including Standing Order, Direct Debit and online payments.

Your tenancy conditions say that you must pay your rent every week for the following week. It is important that you decide how to pay your rent before you move in to your new home.

If you are a Newham Council tenant and would like a rent account statement posted to you, please click the link and in the e-mail provide your name, address, account No and the dates you want the statement to start and finish click here.


Direct Debit and Standing Order

We would prefer you to pay your rent using either of these payment methods as they are easy for you to administer, cut down on postage and paperwork and save you having to queue. Tenants that pay their rent by Standing Order or Direct Debit are automatically entered into a quarterly prize draw for £200.00 in shopping vouchers.

Direct Debit: You can arrange a Direct Debit for your housing rent using our online form, by calling into a Local Service Centre or by calling Newham Council Rent Service on 020 8430 2000. If you pay in this way, we will calculate your payments for the financial year and send these details to you and your bank, we will also advise you and your bank of any amendments to these payments.

Standing order:
If you want to pay by standing order, you can get an application form by clicking on the link below, by calling into a Local Service Centre or by calling Newham Council Rent Service on 020 8430 2000 and selecting option 3 then option 1. It is important that if you pay in this way, you tell your bank immediately of any changes to the rent you have to pay.

Over the internet

You can also pay by debit card online using the Online Payments service.


Internet banking

If you have internet access to your bank account you can pay your rent via internet banking.

If you wish to pay your rent in this way you will need the following details;

Allpay Card Scheme

This is where you can pay at the post office or other local retail outlets. Find your nearest post office.

You will be given a payment card so that you can make cash rental payments at any outlet in the country that displays the Allpay or PayPoint symbols.

Over the phone

You can pay over the phone using a debit or credit card by calling the Newham Council Contact Centre on 020 8430 2000. Payments will be authorised while you wait so you know that the payment has gone through.


Direct from your pay

If you work for us or have retired from a job with us, you can pay your rent direct from your salary or pension. If you would like more information, telephone 020 8430 2000.


By cash or cheque

You can also pay by cash or cheque at some Local Service Centres.
